D2 going in the shop

Looks really good Gary. I wish I had one of those top winch brackets - I have everything else but that beefy bracket. I guess I'll need to get someone to make one. I'm tossing up whether to fit the winch anyway or whether that would be a bad idea because someone else might try to tow with it.

Cheers,
Neil

Better make or find a bracket, I tried to tell Sqautch thats what broke that trans, case on that D2 that was all brazed up, then they took the winch off and put a drawbar on it, but i got no reply like I dont know anything. Everybody just oohs n ahhhs how shiny and clean everything looks on it but wait till the first wet morning dew and that thing will be a rust bucket and an oil leaker, no primer or paint, no anti-seize on threads and no gasket sealant. Oh well it's his baby.

Don't worry, a bracket will be in place before the winch is, I've decided. It's probably ok if it's only me running because I'd know not to use it but if it's like any of my projects, it'll be "next year" before I get to the bracket...The only thing I regret on this tractor is painting some of it. It just looks dumb now so I'll have to paint the whole thing : )

I was getting ready to install the left side final drive after cleaning the paint off the housing and decided to put some diesel in there to clean out the remaining sludge.
I thought that spinning the gears would spread the diesel around and wash out the sludge. The problem with the plan was the gears locked up about half way around. It was a solid metallic sound and the gears were definitely hitting something. I knew I was going to have to take it apart to see what was going on. I figured it would be an old roller from a bearing that had previously failed because all the bearings looked good. When I got it to the parts washer I found a little bolt that had no business being in there. It never got in between the gears and I couldn't say how long it's been in there . Maybe it got in there when the case was repaired. It looks like the whole top broke off and was welded back on. It's hard to see in the pictures but there's some brass around the top of the bearing race. Everything looks good and I never had any problems so its going back together and get installed

I did a little draw bar rehab. Its pretty labor intensive just like everything else but I just get sucked in by something that has wear that can be fixed. Not a lot of money just mostly time and elbow grease

looks just like a bought one. nice detail on the hitch pin its made for it i tell ya.

Thank you I've never had or seen an actual draw bar pin but it just seemed like the way it should be

Some parts turning yellow. I know from experience that there are just some places you cant get paint in. Did a little spot painting on the hydraulic pump and need to make a gasket to install the pump. Then everything will have painted protection and look good.
Second final drive hung and looking forward to some more major components being installed.

Hi Mike
Yes I swear little cats need more love than big ones. But since I haven't ever had a big one I could be mistaken. All I know is this little cat has gotten a lot of love.

Well here we go again, I'm pretty sure that this is one of the last can of worms I have to open. Front idlers from my 5j and a 5j parts tractor that I thought was a good parts source. I have gotten a lot of good parts from that particular 5j but front idlers probably is one of them.
I think I should be able to salvage enough out of the lot to make almost a complete set . I need to measure bushings on one idler that I think might be in spec but other one is definitely going to need to be replaced.
