Hi, seyser.
Didda bitta that in my younger days, used everything from D4s to D8s. The 2 X D8s once took down 6,500 acres in 5 X 13-hour days - around 100 acres an hour.
It sure does help if you have a good man on the other tractor. LOL.
Just my 0.02. Thanks for sharing.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Hi Deas,
I’ll bet that was quite a job. Sounds like those D8’s would move at a pretty good pace.

Laying rails on new grade to serve roundhouse for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad (Pere Marquette District) Diesel locomotives in the "Wyoming" yards at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Caterpillar D4 tractor equipped with Hyster side boom handles 39' rails weighing 110 lbs. per foot. The D4 also works with stoneboat to distribute material for new trackage.

Hi, seyser.
It was all 2nd gear work with 2 X 270 hp powershift D8Hs pulling 600 feet of 2 1/2" chain cutting around 400 feet wide in scrub 10 to 12 feet high - mostly only got to see each other at the end of each run. THAT is when you REALLY need a good man on the other tractor.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
