Previous posts have shown Hahn Merton and spoken of "blocks" on tractors in the rice of Northern Sacramento Valley
This shows good picture of blocks on a TD 40.
Blocks were common on combines and tractors working in the muddy fields. Modern leveling with laser guided machinery and changes in genetics of rice have put this practice in the past.

Calisphere is neat site to surf - lot of history here.

Thanks for the links. I won't gripe about the AC freezing up in the Hardy I used to drive. What make was the one with the side shot? It sure looked similar to ones built in College City, CA. JM

Address reads 2129-2131 University Ave. Notice the "Caterpillar Sales and Service" sign hanging outside to the left of the entrance door? Wonder if the building still exists???

If I did everything correctly the address looks like the middle of the University of Minnesota campus now on google maps. No building there. But I learned a little bit about Ziegler Cat's history even if I didn't get the location correct.
Thanks for posting.

Caption says "steam tractor with plow" dated 1905.

Maybe an early Holt?
