You could also look for a D4600 engine as they use the same parts, only 2 more cylinder.

Regards

I thought that too but the parts book that I have for the D6 5R which has the D4600 shows different part numbers for the valves than the ones shown in the D4 4G parts book in the library.

If they are the same then the D4600 valves are still available from Cat.
D4600 valves are 7B9326 inlet and 7B9327 exhaust

944A - Machine SN 43A2589 Engine SN 90A284
955K- Machine SN 71J3772 Engine SN 83Z0704
D6 SN's 4R732sp, 5R2724, 5R4832
D8 SN's 15A1254, 15A2287, 15A2723

Hi Phil and lifeafterourloss,
I just had a look at my parts books fo thr 4g, 2t and d4600 marine book and the 2t use the same as the d4600 so this also means that they will fit the 4g too, as they updated quit a few part numbers.

Regards

apparently they did that a lot. used common parts in a engine family to keep cost down. and its a old trick want more power add more cyl. there is no substitute for cubes.

If appears the head had seats installed. Are here Cat seats?

What casting number is your head? I may have one or two. I stripped a few down for parts, may also have a set of good liners as well.

Looks like the part number is 3B9422 and I am guessing the casting number is 0 ULEO. Probably going to need 3 exhaust and 3 intake seats. Liners would be great! Dad and I are determined to get her running. He keeps quoting the German from the 1965 flight of the Phoenix movie. "I have decided to finish this project!"

The casting number is the 3B9422, which may or may not match what the part # is for that piece in the manual, since various machining changes along the way or other tweaks to that original casting subsequently changed the part number, although the old casting number remained on the piece because the same raw casting was still being used. The O UL EO is the casting date code, using Cat’s “Numeral Code” formula:
N=0
U=1
M=2
E=3
R=4
A=5
L=6
C=7
O=8
D=9

So the “O UL EO” translates to 8-16-38. You can use this to decide the casting dates of all the major components on the whole tractor, also handy for determining if any major pieces have been replaced in the past 👍
