thank you very much Eddie, your information is very useful and interesting. I understood the folded core overheats the engine?. I just sent you a photo of the injection pump.
When I finished the work season, I will check the injection pump.
If you do not bother you, can I have your e-mail? and my 'This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Sorry for my English, not 'good, but try to interpret it.
thanks and hello

I show 13.5 degrees +/- 1 degree BTC for the 3N PC scroll engine.

Also rated at 140 hp.

Check your 1Y parts book....my 4Xxxxx (same era) shows an optional supplemental cooling group with different core, fan and crank pulley.

Hi Team,
OM thanks for the correction.
Robby,
your english is good and we can understand what you are saying.
The fuel pump you have is a Sleeve Metering Pump, so the spacers under the torque spring do inrease the fuel delivery and the power of the engine.

Something simple to check is the thermostat outlet pipe--this is the cover that the top radiator hose connects to on top of the engine--Cat reduced the size of the hole to slow the water flow down thru the radiator so it could be cooled better. If the flow is too high the water is not in contact with the radiator tubes long enough to give up the heat efficiently. This smaller hole makes a big difference to the radiator efficiency.
There was a post on here or ACME about the hole size, last year I think.
From memory the size was around 28-29 mm instead of about 50 mm, someone else may have the correct size for the smaller hole in the housing, and I will check further. You could weld a suitable washer to your old housing if yours has the large hole, when we find the correct hole size for you.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Top Radiator Elbow

The Cat Service Magazine 1981/02/02 Media Number -SEBD1104-00
SMCS-1355;1361
This is caterpillars Service update for the top radiator elbow.
The new inside Dia. is 1.1 inch

I know from experience that it works I had a hard time with my D6C keeping it cool, and after changing the top elbow it solve my heating problem. No matter what the experts say, I will prove them wrong in the field and that is what that counts in the end.

180 HP is not a lot out of a DI3306 engine that same engine is push to 200 in the D7G and more in motor graders and other applications.
I had it turned up more when I was pulling a scraper with it. The D6C10K and D6D4X power train is designed to take the HP with out any problems. I don't know of any cat that was designed as over built. I have rebuilt several D6C10K and put the DI3306 in them. (HP is set at 180) When done they make one great Dozer.

Hi eddy,
That timing was for the scroll pump but the sleeve metering PC is the same.
Checked my 4X D6d for the radiator connection pipe (next to tank). They do refer to it as a "baffle assembly" but give no options but that's an old time trick.

Hi OM,
yes, timing is the same for both fuel systems.
The only Parts Book I have for 3306 is an Industrial Engine one and the P/No for the "Pipe" as they call the Outlet Housing on top of the thermostat is, 1P9989, this no doubt changes or changed to/from the full size bore pipe to the orifice type pipe.
Have been Searching in vain for a thread which may talk of the orifice size. I see we have a new style of Search Result format.
Thanks and Cheers,
Eddie B.

The 4x manual shows two pipes (4X6608-up)...a 2P7731 with a change to 8N9287. No indication of size, just changes with serial number. I wonder if the thermostat has been checked out.

I don't recall that being a topic on here.

OK, looks like you found it (top pipe "baffle assembly" right??)

Back to radiators again: The folded core radiator is of the modular type supposedly with great benifits....are we talking the same thing?

Sorry, I'm confused. I need help.
I need to reduce the diameter of the tube that goes from the thermostatic valve on the cylinder head to the radiator, taking the diameter of 28 mm (1.1 ")?
But by doing so, surely the water has more time to cool the radiator, but still more time in the engine overheat. Or is it not?

As for the injection pump, the phase is of 13.5 ° before TDC, right?
We must anticipate a further 0.25 ° (phase at 13:25 ° BTDC) to get good performance?.

Thanks to all of you are fantastic
Robby

No , .25 deg extra advance make sit 13.75 deg BTDC, a common mistake. Checking the cooling system round with an infra-red heat gun will give you more clues on the real problem.

The theory is that slowing down the water rate will allow the radiator to reject heat at a greater rate than the engine creates it....but it isn't necessarily so. Lots of factors involved, condition of cooling surfaces, water pump operation, slipping belts, fan type, size and speed, engine hp, timing and load as well as the capability of the existing radiator.
