I would think D2 - Pictures in other places on the Donner Historical Society Pages show a caption of bought in Marysville.
This photo appears to show the Starting Engine Clutch lever and pinion levers.

I wonder if he has a heater in the cab of the D2. That would be toasty and make for a pleasant amble up and down the ski slopes

Another from the Donner Summit Historical Society Pages -
This had to be a very tough job - I can just see the snow covering everything from the plow back!
It was bad enough being in a cab, often only small area one could see out of "if" the "air push" wipers did their job.
