youve got a excellent machine. someone really looked after it. if you want to make it look shiny and also preserve the paint you can use a mix of penertrol and turps spray on with a squirt bottle or spray gun and it will help keep the paint. its also excellent mixed in the paint too.
when my grandfather retired he painted the house with enamel house paint and they added penetrol to it 20yrs later when he had a painter repaint it they washed it down with sugar soap and painted straight over it the paint had only faded and was a bit chalky the penetrol had made the paint last better.

During this past week I lifted off the seat, fenders and fuel tank as one unit as described in the service manual:

And yesterday I dropped the pivot shaft and managed to get both finals pulled:

First look at the steering clutches, the overall thickness of the stack of plates is sitting right at 3 inches. From others experence, how does everything look? There is a lot of oil and crud in the compartments otherwise no corrosion, except some surface rust on the clutch hubs:

If the thickness of stack is within spec, the drive teeth and the splines in the drum is the other critical factor in how much more use there is in the parts. Some coloring in the area teeth sat in the picture of drum makes me say the picture could be deceiving, but teeth of plates is very good so I would guess drum is also.

I have removed plate in clutch packs with just tinny little points left of the tooth, so yours look close to new in that area.

Your drum splines look serviceable Mark. Mine were worn all the way through. What spline wear does is make it harder to disengage under load, because the plate teeth have to slide up over the bump meaning they have to rotate some. So it doesn't take much wear to diminish the feel siginificantly. If you ever get the chance to operate brand new steering clutches, you might be very surprised at how light and "power steering" they are

Cheers,
Neil

Thanks for the reply guys, here's some closeups the RH drum shows a little wear to splines to the inside, the LH drum has almost nothing.

I would clean out the compartments and use all those parts. They all look really good. What a great tractor

Today I tried my steering clutch and drum pulling apparatus (which I have been piecing together for months) and I'm pleased to report it worked perfectly! The 20T April Hydraulics hollow centre ram and hand pump brought through Ali Express worked an absolute treat. All drums and hups let go at a relitively low tonnage (none were loose however) which I think may be because oil/grease had been migrating down the splines:
