NOT a fan of full-throttle starts either ! once it starts i want to verify oil pressure first, then i'll slowly increase RPM speed...there's a lot of iron (and oil) to warm up to operating temp

always dropping GOLD, all you have to do is just pick it UP !

Yes the dozer was loaded with the machine running, the problem is my inexperience and inappropriate battery leads / and the fact that i used my tundra pickup battery and another identical battery but the leads were being held by pressure "visegrips".

The dozer and the disks had been stored for decades in a sugarcane farm that was put up for sale and the sellers sold all the equipment separatley for a good price, then the biggest mechanics workshop in that area (100 miles from here) that works for the sugarcane mill bought the machine and the disk, replaced the piston rings, the pistons apparently also and put an ad on facebook marketplace.

The only problem the seller mentioned was that you need to pull the throttle lever when turning the machine on, not to full throttle i think but it was in 0 throttle so thats why it didnt turn on then when i moved the lever abruptly because i got a bit impatient and tried to turn on the machine mexican style that is 100% carelessly then the cable terminal lead that connected the 1st and 2nd battery had a mini explosion which according to 2 people i have asked around here and chatgpt 4 was because the connection between the batteries and the cables was poorly made.

Ill upload some photos tomorrow!

Thanks for the replies frens

Hope to see more photos of your D4 and the disk. As a farm boy here, I have spent many hours disking, and to this day enjoy it very much. The toolbar blade is nice to have, and if you do not have implements already, you can start looking for chisels, furrowers, etc. if you are going to farm on your "ranchito". I should not say that, because you might have several thousand hectares!
My preference here for the D4s are 2 group 31 truck batteries; one in each side. Use large diameter cable such as 01 or 0 with good terminals (not the clamp together leaded ones).
Funny (sad) you mentioned Vice-Grip pliers; I did the same thing once, and fried the post to the terminal, ruining the battery in the process.
Good luck and lots of fun with your new workhorse. JM

CTS, sorry, I guess I should have said to throttle back once it begins to fire. Same goes for cranking the motor with throttle off to get oil pressure on one thats been standing some time.
Captain Beans, it definitely sounds like you need to first get all your battery connections cleaned up before having another go at starting it.

So the dozer started alright but i drained the truck batteries amps because i was not using the heater starter switch properly (I have to press and turn the starter 2 minutes before trying to crank) and i stopped experimenting with the dozer because i didnt want to find myself stranded away from home.

I moved the dozer a bit but i tilted the bucket and it started pushing dirt with one of the corners of the blade then the engine stalled. I figure out what the seller meant when he said i had to move the throttle lever when starting the dozer because the only way to turn it off is to pull the throttle lever all the way to 0 position.

The starter, the engine and blade pistons are very strong! the dozer moves very quickly even in 1st gear! Is this normal?

Here is todays photo.

I am not sure if the dozer has a toolbar blade, the seller told me he got a rootcut with the mahcine but i dont understand how a d4 can use a rootcut maybe with the toolbar blade?
I have my grandfathers old sorghum planter from the 70s:  is it possible to adapt it to run with my machine? that would be incredible.

Thanks! this website is amazing btw

First gear should be less than 2 miles per hour. If my memory is correct, it is in the center, pushed forward, and 5th is directly towards the operator.
Yes, the blade comes off, and there are brackets to attach the 2.25" toolbar that your planters are attached to. (the push arms are turned to the rear of machine).
If you find the proper beam, 4.5"X7.5"? there is another set of slide on clamps designed for quick removal.
If Mike B. is watching, he might be able to post a few photos of the parts I mention.
I do not understand your throttle. It normally is wide open throttle when pulled back towards the operator, and off pushed forward. JM

One corner of the dozer blade digging first?
Depends upon the position of the machine and if the adjustments are correct to maintain level with the tracks.
Cylinders should be fed from the same valve body so they should work in unison.

Correct me if I am in error here Deas - the dozer man from down unda.

JM is quite knowledgable on those D4's.

On those toolbar dozers ( or most dozers ) you need to adjust the turnbuckle where the push beam connects to the blade to make it cut level, or cut at an angle if that’s what you require.

I would think the left side would need to be extended or the right side retracted or a combination there of going off the picture.

Then again I am no dozer expert to take this at face value just sharing my experience if I remember this correctly.

Couldn’t help that it’s a Balderson blade, not CAT or Rome. Same difference as far as I know. Aggressive digging can be reduced by having the “training wheels”‘I call them (feet or skids) lowered/in place about 1” behind the blade, that is, if it has them.
Pitch the blade upper face forward for less cutting action?
Some pictures of toolbar ideas. More tomorrow weather permitting. JM
