Everything going back together nicely. Replaced all the worn clutch linkages. It made a huge difference in the clucth operation .the funnel was missing so I bought a $4 bell reducer from the hardware store, cut it down to fit and tack welded in place.
Clutches weren't to bad to install, the backlash wasn't to bad just took some time to get right. Everything else went back fairly easy, overall not to bad.

Got the track springs assembled and installed. I had a machine shop make a threaded rod to replace the bolts. I had them add extra length to take up the slack from the wear in the tracks. I also wanted the threaded rod to be fully engaged in the adjusting nut. This does give more than the recommended 4" between the nuts that the service manuals call for as a maximum. Time will tell if this will be a problem or not. All I know is its way better than what was in there when I got it.
Was able to do a short test run yesterday. Had to readjust the clutch in the woods. I'm not sure what happened everything was working fine then no clutch. The lock nut was tight and all the linkage was still hooked up. I think the disc must have hung up somehow when I adjusted it initially. I readjusted the clutch and seems fine after working for an hour or so.
Put the dozer back in the shop for a once over and check all my work over. Should be ready to go to work today.

What material did you make the threaded rod out of Gary?

Ended up using grade 8. There were some other type stock that got thrown around but the grade 8 seemed to be the best choice.
The threads are 1 3/8 6 and I think threaded rod is available. It was a push as far as what I could find premade and having the threads cut.
I paid $250 for the 2 threaded rods and nuts were a couple bucks a piece

Have enough hours on my "fix" for the bolt through the tension spring to report back. So far I can't see anything moving, bending or looking like it is showing any undue stress. I know hundreds of hours will show any problems that 40 won't but no failures so far. I will say I haven't pulled any punches running this machine,it's a bulldozer and that's how I've treated it. It's been bounced off of stumps, run over logs, sidehill, pivot turns with no trouble with the tracks at all. I guess time will still tell but no breakage after a really good test run
