im not quite understanding what you mean with bending the wire in the plug hole to the mag? what im understanding is you could just keep the plug wire an 1/8th of an inch away from a good ground and then turn it over...(it has an aftermarket starter on the back of the tractor)
also could i use a timing gun while i turn it over to check the timing??? i have the mag snapping when the front crank pully is lined up with the tab i just dont know if its 100% on!!!

Is to replace the sparkplug wire with a stiff piece of wire so that you nor your buddy has to stand and hold it while you are checking for spark.
Thinking back on this???
When you use the electric starter to crank the devil out of it with the choke on, can you get gas to dribble out of the carb because it is flooded? Are the sparkplugs wet? Do you smell gas?
These are signs that you may have the magneto timed to the first cylinder but the wires on wrong after that. Or you maybe trying to time on the impulse hence you are too far out of time to get it to fire and stay running.

Yup, I wasn't clear enough about the wire. A coat hanger wire is too heavy but a large paper clip is about right if it's long enough. I sometimes use old welding rod but more frequently use "mechanics" wire or baler wire. It's much safer than holding the spark plug wire (unless you can get a friend to hold the plug wire for you
).

ok update on my cat is the timing is on and i have an older gentleman in my town that does small engines and restores wheeled tractors and i have previousley asked him to help me on my case when i finish the cat and so i went to talk to him about the cat and he is going to boil my carb and do a deeper clean than i have done and he said since he is a licensed mechanic that he can order parts directly from zenith and if there is any parts as in jets or plugs that he should be able to order them... so im keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I got the carb back and asked the old timer who cleaned it for me how it looked... he said that it looked really good and he didnt really get much debris from the carb but i bolted it on and choked it and she fired right up just like normal but this time
she kept running
... so for the first time in
10 + years
it has been running for more than a minute
(after that i would run out of starting fluid lol)
so my next question is how to adjust the clutch... ill post pics in a couple of minutes of what it looks like because it doesnt look like any pics i have seen before.... but the reason i need to adjust it is because when i push in the clutch it grindes a little bit and trys to die.... then i try to put it in gear and it grindes really bad... i know it needs fluid and im just wondering what oil to use and how much...
here is a youtube link of the CAT

Dalton,
Can't tell you how happy I am to hear that you finally got your 22 running!!! And, you didn't cheat and buy a different one like I did with my D2 CDU!
I do appreciate the phone call too.
Okay team, now let's tackle the clutch problem. I'm not all that familiar with 22's so I won't be of much help on this one. More than likely the clutch is stuck from sitting for so long. Is there an inspection cover on the 22?
