Hi OM,
yes indeed, I have no explanation or experience of such reported large volume of oil loss from the engine--leaking lip seals in pumps, or piston ring seals for the crank usually take some time to transfer large volumes oil--I guess unless they are missing ???

Can only think machine was not level when the oil was refilled and checked--not sure now if the engine oil was filled by volume or dip stick checks--I feel there could be some cloud over George's explanations for some issues reported.
Now he has the machine home I think these issues need to be re-checked so as to rule out any possible observation errors.
Its easy to do a re-test and then formulate a plan of attack for any issues found to be still evident.
Would be hesitant to go ripping things apart yet without positive proof--my thoughts.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Thanks Eddie and OM. You are both very correct.... I am in zero hurry to start tearing into things again... It seems the oil level has leveled out and zero need to add additional... Not 100% as I thought I added a 5 gallon pal but found one in my cab.... Full of course... So the jury is out still and I do believe I added more then it calls for .... 11.5 gallons...

The Transmission oil needed to be changed out... The color was grey as discussed... I am looking for a good TDTO equivalent vs the cat brand... I have read some previous posts surrounding this.... It is pretty clear on making sure it is the right viscosity etc....

I have an exhaust manifold the rear closest to cylinder 6,5,and 4 that needs replacing.... It is fully cracked around #6 and this goes all the way around... I have the part and will try my best to take out the 8 bolt studs... I will order new gasket and studs....

Thanks OM not sure how to use this in relation to what is available here on the island...

There are a couple of 5 gallons that are stating Caterpillar TO-2. equivalent. Not sure if that is enough... But I have two known choices here that meets the specs... Cat. TO-2

Thank you for your guidance let me know your thoughts...

TO-2 is considered an obsolete spec. Current is TO-4.
The only way I'd recommend the TO-2 is that we are unsure of the operation of the unit with possible engine oil contamination and you may wind up dumping that oil for repair and replacement.

Okay thanks OM I dont believe that the transmission has any oil contamination as it is grey in color... The only way that would be possible is if it is a one way leak... I would think the engine oil would be grey as well and it isn't....Back to the grind to find the correct transmission oil....

Replied by kittyman1 on topic 5w-30 Oil
-my local guy recommends 5w-30 engine oil...for everything but final drives(80w-90)

-until you get your leaks...fluid transfers between systems sorted...

-you can upgrade when you get your fluid levels steady

Current engines oils are to slick for clutch applications, that's why to TO-4 spec.
