By now, I'm sure you have learned alot more about engines, clutches and transmissions! Keep going on learning new skills! There are times when we have been short with you for not listening but if one would read back through this Thread, they will see that everyone has given you lots of "training". The desire to take it apart over and over to get it right is a strong skill in life. It teaches a person patience!
Again, I CONGRATULATE you on your continued success and education in the repair and operation of this machine! Now that it runs and moves on its own, you can focus on the other many maintenance issues that will arise. With your ambition will come the skill to diagnose and properly repair the mysteries of equipment!
Jeff

Hi LCM,
we knew you would get there in the end.
I remember back when I was your age and how little I knew, especially the terminology used by others I found confusing.
I listened to the advice of others and soaked it up like a sponge. Sometimes the learning curve is steep.
Well done, be proud of your achievement.
This repair and especially the troubleshooting to finally find the problem and fix it is a learning experience to store away for future reference.
It seems your problem was lost motion caused by the incorrect width throwout bearing.
You have now learnt something about lost motion in mechanical linkages.
Cheers, and another WELL DONE,
Eddie B.

"drujinin" i know i got short with someo of you through out the thread but i have read through the thread many times, word for word and i understand that all you guys are trying to do is help me... if it wasn't for all of you especially "zootownjeepguy" witout his help with the carb it wouldn't even be running, im sure a lot of you could of done it, i just can't as of now do it myself... i am verry thankful for all of your help so far and i am lookinf forward to doing all of the maintnence rather than pulling the motor and doing clutch work lol!!! i still need to adjust the carb but as in the video she was trying to fire just with the gas that has been sitting in the bowl...
thank you all!!!
and i figure if i go wheeling with my truck ill just use the 22 to get un stuck, therefore i just will not tell my grandfather it is fixed... or ill tell him that i need it lol!!!

i just finished putting it all togeather and i started it and pushed in the clutch and guess what it didn't grind... then i put it in gear and guess what same thing it didn't grind... i let out the clutch and it went backwards... then i realized left and up is reverse and the other 3 are forward... i pulled the steering clutches and they seemd to work just fine!!!

Glad to hear you FINALLY got it goin'. As far as oil goes, basically, "detergent oil" has additives to keep the dirt suspended in the oil so the crud will come out when you change the oil. Non-detergent does not so the crud will be in there somewhere. OIL EXPERTS: please correct me if I'm wrong on this (guess I could use a lesson too). Usually a good 30 weight oil is what you need. Sometimes 40 weight is recommended, or a multi-viscosity such as 10W-40 for cold weather.
After all the work you've done on that 22 I think you have earned the right to Keep it. Hopefully your Grandpa will feel the same!
BTW,
A word of advice from a former Off-Roader (me): Do all your Off-Roading in Two Wheel Drive. When you get stuck, lock your hubs, put it if 4wd and go get a Pizza.
If you lock your hubs BEFORE getting stuck, you'll enjoy Pizza with clean pants & dry shoes.

Looks like you have the basics all you need now is more practice. Judging by the smile all of the bloody knuckles and missed sleep was worth it! Congrats. Good Job!
